GHOTEL & nestor go Green

“Sustainable action is an essential part of many people’s lives. It is important to us to continue our guests’ personal efforts during their stay at a hotel which belongs to The Chocolate on the Pillow Group and to fulfill our responsibility as a company to operate sustainably. We value transparency and seriousness, which is why we have chosen GreenSign as an experienced and professional certification partner in this field in a first step,” said Erik Florvaag, CEO | Managing Partner of The Chocolate on the Pillow Group.

The Chocolate on the Pillow Group, which also includes the hotel brands GHOTEL hotel & living and nestor, has long relied on a variety of measures to enable sustainable business and leisure travel in its hotel operations. These include, among other things, the use of local food, the reduction of portion packaging, the implementation of sustainable waste management, and ensuring the highest possible energy efficiency. In addition, numerous social projects have been supported, including assistance to the victims of the flood disaster in the Ahr Valley, the accommodation of Ukrainian war refugees, and most recently, a donation to a regional nonprofit organization.

With the help of the GreenSign certification, The Chocolate on the Pillow Group will now analyze the current state of sustainability for each individual hotel. A resulting action plan will then provide the opportunity to further expand sustainability efforts individually. In a further step, The Chocolate on the Pillow Group will focus on the so-called blue ecology.

ECOLOGICAL SUSTAINABILITY

The Chocolate on the Pillow Group is continuously working to optimise energy efficiency in the hotels in its portfolio. Among others we focus on optimal cleaning processes, waste avoidance and separation, as well as offering sustainable food. Central procurement and associated logistics processes also contribute to ecological sustainability. New projects of The Chocolate on the Pillow Group are designed from the outset based on high ecological, economic and social standards.

SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY

For us, social sustainability encompasses the way we want to work together at The Chocolate on the Pillow Group and in our hotels. Approachability, employee health, participation and involvement play a particularly important role. Furthermore, we value social engagement, as well as cooperation with service providers and suppliers who, like us, are committed to sustainability and have a similar understanding of values. In both areas, we question our actions and strive for continuous improvement.

ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY

Economically sustainable action is deeply rooted in the management of The Chocolate on the Pillow Group, as we see it as a huge opportunity for the hospitality industry. As a responsible company, The Chocolate on the Pillow Group and its hotels become an attractive employer and create a sustainable foundation for earning and prosperity. Furthermore, the company is structured in a way that provides financial security to employees and other interest groups. Decisions are made with a view to their long-term sustainability for future generations.

OUTLOOK: BLUE ECOLOGY

While the previous concept of green ecology is often associated with renunciation, scarcity or loss, blue ecology emphasizes the creativity, technology, power and beauty of sustainable action.Instead of the ecological footprint, which measures the negative effects of human consumption, the handprint comes into play.
It captures the positive effects of sustainable action, such as improving quality of life and restoring ecosystems. Clear criteria for measuring it are still missing, which is why the The Chocolate on the Pillow Group wants to develop its own concept that demonstrates the benefits of sustainability and especially sustainable accommodation.
